Originally founded as a regional newspaper in Wemding over a hundred years ago, APPL has transformed itself into a top European printing company whilst maintaining the flexibility of a family-run business. APPL cemented its repution as Germany’s number one printer of colour books in the 1970 s.

At the start of the 1980 s, APPL identified sales opportunities for print products in sub-A4 formats and commissioned the fabrication of special web presses with a shortened cut-off. Thus, appl druck was established in 1984 as a spetacialist in web offset printing, designed to operate alongside the aprinta druck sheetfed printing business, which had already become highly successful in its own right.

With the goal of expanding our range of services to match our customers' requirements, further additions were then made to the Group, with the integration of the Freising-based sellier druck business in 1978, the Würzburg-based echter druck in 1999, and kuncke druck in Ahrensburg in 2005. The APPL Group has also been offering gravure printing services since 2005 through the company PRINT.Forum, while the hardcover bindery m. appl has formed part of the Group since 2006.
